Hardware Engineer

ZAITRA, established in 2020, is a startup with a primary emphasis on delivering tailored flight software and cutting-edge AI solutions for space missions. Our endeavours encompass projects for both the European Space Agency and commercial customers.

One of our flagship products, SKAIDOCK, is an advanced Data Processing Unit (DPU) designed for satellites. Built around the Xiphos Q8 module, SKAIDOCK ensures compatibility with a wide range of satellite systems.

About the role

As a Hardware Engineer, you will play a role in designing and developing electronics for spacecraft and satellites. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee fabrication, testing, and iterative design improvements.
  • Document test results and performance data.
  • Verify electrical interfaces, including SPI, I2C, UART, and Ethernet.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware solutions with firmware and software systems.
  • Procure electronic components.
  • Manage and ensure the quality of supplier outputs when part of the work is outsourced.
  • Prepare design documentation and ensure compliance with aerospace standards.

Required qualifications

  • Proficiency in PCB design (Altium, KiCad, etc).
  • Experience in prototyping, testing, and validating engineering designs.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and data sheets.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC considerations and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for space.
