ZAITRA, established in 2020, is a startup focused on delivering tailored flight software, onboard data processing units, and AI solutions for space missions. We work with the European Space Agency and commercial customers to advance onboard intelligence for satellites and in-space transportation.
About the role
As a Junior GIS Data Annotator, you will play an important role in preparing high-quality geospatial training data for ZAITRA’s onboard AI systems. Your primary responsibility will be to use your knowledge in GIS and remote sensing to accurately interpret and annotate satellite and aerial imagery datasets.
This role is ideal for a student looking for practical, part-time experience that directly contributes to cutting-edge AI deployed in Earth orbit and beyond. You will ensure the precision and reliability of the data that trains our models for tasks like feature detection, change monitoring, and object classification from space.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Geospatial Data Annotation: Accurately and consistently label, segment, and annotate satellite imagery and other geospatial data (e.g., classifying land cover, identifying specific infrastructure, or tracking changes over time) using specialized annotation tools (CVAT)
- Quality Assurance: Perform self-checks and peer reviews to ensure the highest level of annotation quality and adherence to internal standards and project specifications.
- Documentation: Maintain clear records of annotation methodologies, data sources, and any encountered data anomalies.
- Work with the AI and Software teams to understand their specific data needs and iteratively improve annotation guidelines.
Required qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in GIS, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Cartography, or a closely related field.
- Strong foundational understanding of geospatial concepts, coordinate systems, projections, and remote sensing principles.
- Hands-on experience with GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar) for data manipulation and visualization.
- Exceptional focus on precision and consistency, vital for producing reliable training data.
- Highly motivated, reliable, and able to manage time effectively to meet part-time commitments.
What we offer
- Hybrid work (flexibility for part-time student schedule).
- Flexible working hours adjusted to fit your study schedule.
- Direct impact on the development and direction of AI products for space missions.
- Involvement in the development of solutions intended for deployment in Earth’s orbit and beyond, with the potential to save lives and reduce damage on Earth.
- Team-building activities and company events.
- Multisport card.
What is nice to have
- Prior experience with data annotation, labeling platforms, or image segmentation tasks.
- Familiarity with Python for basic data scripting or processing.
- Knowledge of various satellite imagery sources (e.g., Copernicus Sentinel, Landsat, commercial data).
- An interest in space technology and AI.
